On March 7th, 2025, the Kenya Healthcare Federation (KHF), in partnership with the Strathmore University Business School (SBS), hosted a landmark International Women’s Day (IWD) conference at the Hyatt Regency in Nairobi. Convened under the global momentum of the year and the specific theme, “Accelerating Action: Collaborative Pathways for Inclusive Leadership,” the high-profile event drew over 200 women healthcare leaders, policymakers, private sector executives, and advocates from across the country. The conference served as a powerful forum to address critical gender disparities within the healthcare sector, backed by real-world data from the Women in Health Leadership Project. Industry pioneers tackled systemic challenges, including the persistent "Boys' Club" culture and unconscious bias in career advancement. Dynamic opening remarks from KHF CEO Dr. Tim Theuri and KHF Chairman Dr. Kanyenje Gakombe set an empowering tone, urging organizations to create policies supporting structured mentorship and financial empowerment to dismantle barriers for women climbing the leadership ladder. A standout moment of the day was the riveting keynote address by Njeri Njomo, CEO of Jubilee Health Insurance, who challenged the audience to look beyond traditional networking and embrace true sponsorship—actively speaking each other's names into rooms where strategic decisions are made. Through highly interactive breakout panels covering everything from AI diagnostics bridging care gaps for marginalized women to conquering imposter syndrome, the event concluded with a clear mandate. The KHF IWD 2025 conference wasn't just about demanding inclusion; it was an active blueprint for women to redesign the entire healthcare leadership structure.
