In August 2025, MSI Reproductive Choices Kenya marked a monumental milestone, celebrating its 40th anniversary under the theme “40 Years of Reproductive Choices.” The commemorative event gathered healthcare pioneers, Ministry of Health officials, civil society leaders, and advocacy partners in Nairobi to honor four decades of unwavering dedication to expanding sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) across the nation. From its humble beginnings in a single Pangani clinic in 1985, MSI Kenya has grown into a formidable nationwide force spanning 41 counties. The anniversary event served as both a reflection on a life-saving legacy and a strategic call to action during a critical turning point for global health funding. Leadership, including Country Director Dr. Walter Obita, highlighted MSI’s incredible historical footprint: serving over 40 million clients, averting 2.5 million unintended pregnancies, and preventing more than 1.1 million unsafe abortions since inception. The evening beautifully balanced a celebration of achievements with a bold look toward the future. It highlighted MSI’s multi-pronged approach to modern healthcare—including its 16 holistic centres of excellence, youth forums, and community outreach in marginalized northern regions like Isiolo and Samburu. Through world-class execution and thought-provoking dialogue, the MSI@40 event underscored a powerful truth: ensuring every woman and girl has the autonomy to choose her own future is not just healthcare, but the foundational bedrock of national progress and gender equality.
